2015: In Retrospect Part I (Family)

It’s been another wonderful year. I’m truly grateful to be given the opportunity to meet so many lovely people and their families, and to be entrusted with capturing memories dear to them. This year certainly did not disappoint. It was great to reconnect with clients whom I had already worked with in previous years and to see how their families had grown. Thank you to all of my clients, old and new, to the “likers”, “sharers”, “followers” and friends. Your support is hugely appreciated.

So, here is a small(ish!) collection of some of my favourite imagery and moments from 2015. Part 2 (Weddings) will follow shortly. I look forward to seeing what 2016 will bring…

Happy New Year!

Western Bridal Shoot

I recently photographed another styled bridal shoot co-ordinated by the wonderful Laura of The Budget Bride Company (you may have seen the English Rose shoot which we worked on last year). They offer an extensive supplier directory and a wide variety of nifty tools to help you plan your dream wedding on a budget – including a brilliant 30-day wedding planning e-course.

I think that styled bridal shoots are fantastic. They are a great way to connect with like-minded, local suppliers. Everyone has a chance to let their creativity run free, a chance to try something a little bit different. It’s great to pull together everyone’s talent and expertise, and to respond to current trends within the wedding industry – producing something visual that will hopefully inspire Brides and Grooms-to-be.

There is no doubt that barn weddings are continuously proving to be immensely popular. I believe it is that rustic, D-I-Y charm that appeals to so many. And so, bearing this in mind, we decided to take a trip to the stunning Brampton Grange in Northamptonshire to put on our own rustic wedding in the heart of the English countryside. Drawing inspiration from across the pond, the shoot had a Western twist featuring authentic Texan cowboy hat and boots.

I’d like to extend my huge thanks to all of the fantastic suppliers and beautiful models involved xx

Photo Shoot: Tips for What to Wear – June 2014

A very common question which I am asked by a lot my clients is: “What should I/we wear?“.

Well, ultimately you should always wear something which you are 100% comfortable in and something which makes you feel great! This is key for a successful shoot.

However, I thought I’d share a few of my recommendations for when it comes to choosing what to wear. These tips can be applied to both engagement and family sessions.

  • AVOID bold logos, characters and text on t-shirts as these can be quite distracting
  • THINK “classic” – these images will be your keepsakes and will most likely be on your walls for many years to come
  • AVOID all-white clothing as this can cause “blow outs” leading to details of the clothing being lost
  • DO WEAR: check shirts and jeans. These always work particularly well together and add great texture.
  • DO LAYERS: layer dresses, cardigans and accessories such as necklaces, scarves and ties to enhance visual interest

It’s best to have a theme but not a “uniform” i.e. with everyone in white cotton t-shirts and blue jeans. This can be extremely rigid and unflattering.

Choose a selection of co-ordinating colours and pick clothes that fit within your colour scheme. An example of a complimentary colour palette can be found below. I’ve thrown in suggestions for every family member right from newborn to adults. All items of clothing can be sourced from: www.next.co.uk
